Hello, blog readers. I had a really fun weekend followed by the worst Monday ever today. I won’t get into all the gross details, but I woke up this morning with the stomach bug that’s been going around. This weekend I did have a sore throat/slight head cold, but no stomach symptoms, so I still hosted Jen’s goodbye festivities and helped Tim out with his Super Bowl party yesterday. I didn’t feel great, but I was perfectly fine to do both! Today however, I spent throwing up every 15 minutes from 7 am until 1 in the afternoon. It wasn’t pretty. Chills, body aches, the works. I owe Tim bigtime for being the best boyfriend ever and taking care of me while I couldn’t take care of myself, my roomies who took over when Tim had to leave, and my mom for listening to me cry hysterically on the phone while I couldn’t break my fever and noone else was home. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful support group!
Now that I’m able to eat some solids (literally today’s meals have consisted of popsicles, saltines, and ginger ale – NOT my best Fitness & Feta meal recap) and I finally took a shower, I’m trying to get caught up on all these blog posts I’m behind on! Sorry the next couple of days are probably going to seem all over the place, but life is moving so fast, and I can’t keep up!
Last Thursday
For tonight, let’s talk about my friend Jess’s 30th birthday celebration. Last Thursday night was a fun night out at The Met Bar with my work ladies. Minus Cristin, who we missed dearly, it was fun to catch up with Jess, Sarah, Jamie, Eileen, and Kerri. We always have such a good time when we get together!
We all congregated at a high table in the bar area. There is something just so fun to me about sitting at a high table. Is that weird? Jess ordered her birthday martini, and I limited myself to two glasses of red wine.
We spent a long time with the menus, but I knew what I was going to order before we even got there. My boss treated my group at work to lunch at The Met Bar around the holidays, and I had trouble deciding then between a delicious sounding sandwich and their signature salad with shrimp. I chose the shrimp salad then, so I was 99% sure I was opting for the sandwich this time around!
The Met Bar’s “Something Natural” Open Face Sandwich, consisting of hummus, cucumber, carrots, tomato, avocado, onion, sprouts, sunflower seeds, and apple cider vinaigrette on oatmeal seven grain bread. How unbelievable does that sound?!?
Let me tell you, this sandwich was just as tasty, if not more, as it sounds.
With a pickle and some sweet potato fries on the side, yum. And look at that huge chunk of avocado! Heaven.
One conundrum: How the heck do you eat a STACKED open face sandwich?
I decided like this?
Salad style and I ended up cutting up the bread too.
The sandwich was a little pricey at $12.50, but of course I think any sandwich or burger over $10 is pricey. However, this was the kind of sandwich I was talking about and still thinking about how good it was days later, so I would say it was worth it.
Some crappy phone quality pictures of the ladies:

Unfeatured – Kerri, who refused to take a picture with me!
Good food, good wine, good friends. Hope you had a fun birthday dinner, Jess!
Questions for you guys! When was the last time you guys had the stomach bug? Do you become a big baby like I do? How much would you spend on a sandwich at a restaurant? What was the last delicious sandwich you remember ordering out?
I’m off to try to stomach some toast? Big steps! Stay healthy, folks.
