Lunch Date at Whole Foods

Ummmm.

How have I never experienced the Whole Foods Salad Bar before Friday?

Friday I had to travel to Plymouth for work in the morning, and literally the only thing getting me through the day was knowing Colleen and I had plans to stop at Whole Foods in Hingham on the way home for lunch after our work duties were done.  I think that makes me a huge loser, but it’s okay because Colleen felt the same way!  It’s the little things for us.

By the way, it’s really fun to have a co-worker who is just as health conscious, if not more, than you are!

But back to the subject.  And let me tell you.  The salad bar at Whole Foods is uh-maze-ing.

I started off with some spinach greens.

Then I walked in circles around the salad bar, taking in all the fresh ingredient options!

They had everything!

I was really excited for sweet potatoes.  I looooove sweet potatoes, and decided right then and there that I need to make them more often.

I even went out on a limb and tried something new – tofu!

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about tofu, but I really liked it!  This kind, anyways.

By the time I finished, I had loaded my plate up with ingredients!

I ended up with spinach greens, tomatoes, mushrooms, cucumbers, hard-boiled eggs, yellow peppers, sweet potatoes, chick peas, tofu, red onion, and barley salad in there.

Now, this ended up being an expensive salad.  Of course you do get what you pay for though:

“All of the ingredients are natural or organic and as many as possible are locally grown. That means no artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, preservatives or heart-clogging trans fats. It means the food is pure, fresh, flavorful, and just plain wonderful, produced by farmers who care about quality and their environment.”  [Source]

If you get carried away with ingredients like I do, I wouldn’t recommend this for lunch everyday and instead would recommend buying the same ingredients in the produce section and putting together your own salad at home.  That’s the more cost-effective option.  However, I think I will treat myself to a Whole Foods salad bar lunch every once in a while – it was just so good and a nice wrap up to the work week.  I was legit annoyed when I could see the bottom of my plate because I knew the salad was ending!  Colleen and I had a good laugh about that.

Thanks Colleen for the wonderful lunch date idea and introducing me to the Whole Foods Salad Bar!

Question for you guys!  Have you ever eaten at the Whole Foods Salad Bar?  Thoughts?

Enjoy the day!  I’m feeling much much better than I was yesterday, but I’m still not 100%.  Off to rest up some more.  Catch  you guys later!
