Valentine’s Day Dessert: White Chocolate Peanut Butter Hearts

White Chocolate Peanut Butter Hearts

Recipe inspired by Peas and Crayons


  • Heart shaped cookie cutters
  • 4-5 heaping spoonfuls of natural peanut butter (this was enough for me to make 4 different sized hearts.  Depending on how you make these, you may need more or less spoonfuls).
  • 3 graham cracker squares, crushed
  • White chocolate chips
  • Valentine’s sprinkles


1.  Line cookie cutters on parchment paper or aluminum foil, greased with a little oil to prevent the chocolate from sticking.

2.  Melt half of the white chocolate.  You can do this by bringing a small pot or saucepan of water to a boil and top with a glass heat-safe bowl.  Or just be ghetto like me and do this step in the microwave.  Underestimate so you don’t burn the chocolate!
3.  Spoon the white chocolate evenly into each cookie cutter, distribute evenlyMake sure you allow this layer to cool before you move on to step 4.  Pop in the fridge to speed along the cooling process. 
4.  In a bowl, combine the peanut butter and crushed graham cracker.
5.  Melt the peanut butter and graham cracker mixture slightly, then pour on your next layer (over the original white chocolate layer).  Again, allow to cool before moving on to step 6.

6.  Melt the rest of your white chocolate, then spread for your top layer!  Add the sprinkles right away.

Look how amazing this looks!  Tim is lucky I didn’t bite right into his present once I sprinkled that last sprinkle.

All tied up and ready to go!

Nothing says love better than a heart-shaped dessert!  I really wanted to post these BEFORE Valentine’s Day, but I also didn’t want to give away my surprise for Tim.  You guys can just make these next year.  Or really for anything – you don’t have to use a heart-shaped cookie cutter and Valentine’s sprinkles!  Be creative.  🙂

Did everyone have a nice Valentine’s Day?

Aside from all this awesomeness, I’m also am so blessed and lucky to have Tim in my life to celebrate Valentine’s Day with too.  🙂

Valentine’s Date in the North End

Since Valentine’s Day fell on a Tuesday night this year, I had my heart set on teaching a Valentine’s themed class, back to back with Liz’s theme Kix class of course.  Tim kindly agreed to celebrating a couple of days early to accommodate this request (yes, I’m a huge loser).  So we headed to the North End on Sunday night, where we had such a fun date night.  We haven’t had one in so long!

Tim treated me to dinner at Terramia Ristorante.

The Improper Bostonian pretty much sums up my thoughts on the restaurant exactly:

A true gem among all those rhinestones in the North End, this rustic but cozy trattoria with stucco walls and beamed ceilings specializes in creative interpretations of Italian classics.  The bad news is that there’s no coffee or dessert.  The good news is that you can work off dinner with a stroll around the neighborhood before stopping someplace on Hanover Street for an espresso and a pastry.
Behind Terramia’s pane-windowed storefront on Salem Street is a busy 39-seat trattoria decked out in linens, candlelight and paintings of the Italian countryside. Like the cuisine here, the atmosphere is elegant yet understated.  Since opening in 1993, Terramia has aimed to convince North End diners that there was always more to Italian food than red sauce.  Over the years, the inventive and beloved restaurant has done a great deal of convincing.  You’ll find creative interpretations of seasonally-based classics here.  But come early because you won’t be alone.

We started with a bottle of Merlot along with some bread and a delicious white bean dipping sauce.

For an appetizer, we ordered the cast iron seared U10 scallops, fresh corn saffron crema, and miniature caponata.

Then out came our meals!

Gnocchi for Tim…

House made potato pillows, baby veal meatballs, red chili pepper, colina tomato sauce, and fresh mozzarella.  Those veal meatballs were delish!

Capellini for me…

Handcrafted thin saffron capellini pasta, jumbo shrimp & lobster, garlic, oil & white vino.

Everything was just so delicious and flavorful!  And you know what?  I didn’t feel so full that I couldn’t breathe afterward.  I was satisfied, but it wasn’t over the top.  I liked that.  Also, just like the review said, one of the things I liked the most about this place was that the menu had more than just “red sauce” options like so many other Italian restaurants do.  Very cute and cozy place, would definitely go again.  Plus we had a great waiter!

The dessert options didn’t sound thrilling to us (there were only two options, and no coffee menu!), so we decided to stroll down Hanover Street and grab a post dinner cocktail and some dessert at Caffe Vittoria instead.  Fellow Bostonians, if you haven’t tried this place you have to go!  It has a full bar and the menu includes classic Italian pastries and café drinks.

“Established in 1929, Caffe Vittoria is world-renowned as the first Italian caffè in Boston.  We have served the Italian-American community as well as a myriad of tourists and visitors to Boston’s historic North End with the best in coffee, pastries and fine beverages.  The Vittoria’s old world charm gives one a feeling of being in a romantic café in “Bella Italia.” With four levels of seating and three full liquor bars, there is something for everyone.”

Sounds good to me!

Tim and I had fun just hanging out, indulging in a big piece of strawberry cheesecake, and pretending to be classy with dessert liquors.  This part was my treat!

For drinks, Tim got a B&B and I went with the “Mint Cookie.”

Hot Cocoa, Baileys Mint, and Peppermint Schnapps?  Right up my alley!

I love cafes!

After this night of indulgence, it’s no wonder we needed a tough workout first thing in the morning on Monday!

Anyways, what a really great Sunday night.  Thanks, Tim!  We also had a Valentine’s Day Part 2 after I taught class last night with a homemade meal (nothing romantic haha) and a present exchange.  More on the presents to come!
