On Days I Don’t Feel Like Working Out

Yes, even I have days where I just simply don’t feel like working out.  Wednesday of this week was one of those days.  I worked from home and didn’t make it to the gym or yoga in the morning or on my lunch break like I thought I might do.  I was comfortable in my sweatpants and just in a really indecisive mood about what to do for my workout.  Plus, I had a ton of stuff to get done, all which could be done with some time management but also all which could serve as great excuses to not workout.

I knew that if I just got up and went I would feel more energetic and in a better mood.  Here are some ways I get myself to JUST GO even when I don’t feel like it!

On Days I Don’t Feel Like Working Out…

…I look at this silly little diagram:

Obviously that’s not always enough, but I do like to keep it handy for these “in need moments.”  I love it!

…I get changed into my workout clothes anyways.
I find that if I’m dilly dallying in my pajama pants, it really decreases my chances of getting my butt in gear.  Sometimes just changing into my gym clothes and putting on sneakers is enough to change my vibe.  On Wednesday since I was feeling particularly dragging, I opted for one of my favorite workout tops and headband.  And then I felt like I couldn’t waste a Lulu outfit combo!  Already a step closer to feeling better about getting to the gym.

…I look for some moral support.
As you guys know, one of the main reasons I love my gym routine so much is because of the people and all my fab gym friends.  This “power of social” really is amazing because we all motivate and encourage each other, nevermind hold each other accountable if we no show.  On Wednesday, I put up a Facebook status with all my workout options, knowing all too well that I would immediately be persuaded to get myself over to Somerville for a double CBC sesh.

Ashley deciding she would try out CBC for the first time was the clinching factor in my decision, but everyone’s comments really helped me out.  I felt like I would be letting my friends down if I didn’t go!!

…I give myself a little pep talk.
Yes this sounds so freaking dorky but it’s true.  After putting on my Lulu, I looked in the mirror, forced a cheesy smile, and told myself HOW MUCH FUN I was about to have.

I told you it was cheesy.

…I walk out the door and lock it behind me.
Once I’m outside, I’m more likely to get in my car and keep driving than I am to turn back around and give up.

Seriously, do it.  Just start driving toward the gym.  You will be much more likely to stick with it than turn all the way back around.

…I remember my favorite motivational mantra.

It’s true.  You will never regret a workout.

…I don’t beat myself up.
If a workout that day is just not meant to be, I accept it.  I don’t beat myself up over it.  It’s better to give yourself that rest day or time off that clearly your body is begging for and then get right back into the swing of things the next day than to force yourself into it when you TRULY just can’t.  Getting angry with yourself is counterproductive for the positive energy and motivation necessary to keep you on point.

How do you keep yourselves motivated on days where you just don’t feel like working out?!

For the record, I’m so glad I ended up going to CBC!!  Both classes were really awesome, and I felt AMAZING afterward.  🙂
