PC ’07 Five Year Reunion: Better Than A Million Melons

Hey, hey, hey.  I’m finally getting around to my college reunion post.  If you are just tuning in, I had my five-year college reunion at Providence College this past weekend.  If you are a returning reader, you are probably saying to yourself, “My GOD, stop talking about your reunion.”

Well, sorry, here’s the full recap post because this weekend was better than a million melons!  Better than a mango, even.

PC ’07 Five Year Reunion:  Friday Night

Slesh and I packed up and drove down to Providence late afternoon.  We were both nervous on the ride down.  I’m not sure why, we just were!  Within five minutes of arriving on campus, we each had an extremely awkward moment.  I’ll save these for a future “Awk Spot” post.

The two of us checked in and picked up our event tickets and a little registration packet, including name tags!

We then got a golf cart ride back to where we were staying.  Obviously.

Anyways, we reunited with our friend Erica once we got into the suites.  And I guess you could say we reunited with Ashley too.  Even though Ashley lives across the street, I really never get to see her because of our work schedules!

Yes, we stayed overnight ON campus.  We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Once unpacked and ready for the night, we ventured downstairs to the suite where our friends Jonny, Brent, Matt, and Mike were staying.  A little beer pong may have happened.

Before we got too carried away with beer pong, we realized we needed to eat if we had any chance of making it through the night.  We called for a cab and had some more golf cart fun while waiting for our taxi to show up.

Dinner was at Bar Louie in downtown Providence.  For you fellow Mass folks, there is also a Bar Louie in Patriots Place in Foxboro.  We were seated by a giant sign that said “Rock the Tot.”

This of course inspired the table to order a tater tot appetizer — garlic Parmesan style.

I told myself that with the amount of drinking I’d be doing over the weekend, that my food approach was going to be only have what I’m really craving, and if I do have something not so great, to only have one or two bites.  I think I did pretty good.  Only one tot was tasted by me!  Of course I had to ask what “Rock the Tot” actually was.  Come to find out, Bar Louie hosts an annual tot eating contest which I’m not going to lie, I was very tempted to enter.  I was in a hot dog eating contest once, you know.  Too bad my last Wellcoaches class is this week, else I would have participated.

For a drink I ordered a berry mojito, which was Cruzan Black Cherry, fresh blackberries and strawberries, mint leaves, pure cane syrup, and sparkling water.  Yuuuuuuum.

And for my meal, the California Chicken Club.

Grilled chicken breast, avocado, tomato, lettuce, and pepper-jack on multi-grain bread.  I asked them to hold the smoked onion ranch as well as the bacon, and I asked for a side salad instead of fries.  Not too shabby.

After dinner, we stopped by Waterfire.  They had that whole part of the city dedicated to Providence College which was super cool.  I definitely want to head back to Waterfire for a date night this summer.

Some pretty pictures of us near the water:

After dinner and Waterfire we went to Ri Ra, where the class of ’07 Friday night event was being held.  The bar had a sign up just for us!

There was LOTS of reuniting with old friends, dancing, and fun times!

It was SO great to see all the guys again, how did this many years pass without getting together with them?  The bar closed at 2, and we hosted some friends back in our suite for more beer pong and flip cup (seriously, what am I, 21 again?) and somehow all of a sudden it was 4:30 in the morning before we went to bed.  There was some late night snacking, but I’m proud of myself for only having one bite (not slice!) of pizza (Golden Crust’s crust) and trying to stick to my boring Multigrain and Flaxseed crackers from Trader Joe’s while other bags of chips were being inhaled.

PC ’07 Five Year Reunion:  Saturday

If you can believe this, I woke up on Saturday not feeling so hot.  Honestly it was more from being so tired than being hungover though.  I rolled out of bed and tried to pull myself together to get breakfast in Slavin with the girls.  By breakfast I mean something to eat at noon that the grill man nicely offered to cook as breakfast even though breakfast hours were long gone.

I ordered an omelet with pepper, mushrooms, and onions.  And I think cheese?  I can’t remember.  They were also giving away free donuts so I took one, had one bite, and threw the rest away.  I also munched on a couple of Erica’s curly fries and had some of the melon I brought for everyone once we were back in our room.

Before heading back we went to the bookstore to load up on some new PC gear.  I got a new sweatshirt and new sweatpants.  Fun!

If these don’t make you want to snuggle up with me, well, I’m not sure what to tell you.

Anyways, after lounging for a bit we all got ready for the Reunion BBQ.  This was supposed to be held outside, but since it was torrential down-pouring and windy (we WERE in Rhode Island after all), it was held in Peterson (our rec center).

I loved the BBQ – all the reunion classes were there so it was kinda cool to see the alumni there for their 10th, 15th, 20th, and so on reunions.  There was even a class that graduated in the 60’s — all men before PC went co-ed.  I love PC’s community!

But wait a second, before we went into the BBQ we had to make a quick pit stop at Louie’s, one of our beloved off campus bars.

Some games were played…

“Macho mugs” were drank…

and c*m shots (yes that was the name of it) were taken.

Ok, THEN we trekked to the BBQ.  Just had to get that Louie’s fix!

My friend Matt and his band played some live music, while the rest of us took part in you know, some normal antics.

Just some casual conversations…

Basketball hoop climbing…

High kicking…

Sign stealing…

Scavenger hunting…

and kid activity invading.

Oh, we did eat too.  It WAS a BBQ after all.

First they had a bunch of munchies set out.  I helped myself to a cup of chips and some Dell’s Lemonade (love) while waiting for something more substantial.

Eating the chips presented a slight conundrum.  How the heck are you supposed to hold your chips and eat them while also holding a beer?!

We eventually got it down.  Use the middle finger folks.

When the rest of the food came out, it was exactly what I expected.  Again, I tried to keep it as healthy as I could.  You know, to offset the beer.

Burger with no bun, topped with a slice of American cheese, two tomatoes, and some red onion.  I piled some roasted veggies and corn on the side.  When I cut up my burger and ate it all together, it was pretty good.  And I had a few pickles on the side.  Decent!

PC ’07 Five Year Reunion:  Saturday Night

After the BBQ, we went back to the suites for a bit to freshen up.  We were only there for about an hour when we turned right back around and went to McPhails, our on campus “entertainment center” where we spent the rest of the night.

We got a red carpet welcome.

RIP Prime Time 😦

It was pretty much another night of reuniting, dancing, and fun.

Steph!  I loved seeing you!

NOTEWORTHY:

Me.  A boy.  Pushup competition.  In the bar.

I won.

Sorry, Greg!!

Honestly, had we not been pushup-ing to the “Let me clear my throat!” song and FREEZE!-ing in a plank so many times, not sure I woulda won.

Planks for the win!!!

Such a fun night, even though the DJ played the wrong “shout.”  Twist and Shout is NOT the same as SHOUT.

As for the rest of the night, well, let’s just keep calling it “PC Hunger Games” and leave it at that.

I won’t post the videos.

Note:  Late Saturday night I didn’t do as well with my no chip rule!  BBQ Fritos all the way.

PC ’07 Five Year Reunion:  Sunday

Finally, I rounded out the weekend with a MUST HAVE breakfast if you are ever in Providence.

A bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant from La Salle Bakery.

Not healthy.

But totally worth it before the hysterical car ride back to Boston.

Such an awesome weekend!!!!!

Anyone been to a college reunion yet?  Any good stories?  Comments for me on mine?

P.S.  If you are wondering what all this “better than a million melons” and “better than a mango” mumbo jumbo is, go YouTube it.  Honestly, the video is about a mom who breastfeeds her kids at ages 5 and 7, but the part of the clip I referenced is just SO funny (to my friends and me anyways).

Yeah, we’re weird.  Which you clearly knew after reading through this post!  😉
