Foodie Holiday Gift: Cranberry Oatmeal Chip Cookie Jars

Last week my friend Liz hosted all of us Oak Square Y gals at her house for a gym friend healthy holiday party.  I’ll recap the super fun night soon, but for today I wanted to share with you a fun foodie holiday gift idea if you are looking for one.  I wanted to bring Liz a hostess gift for having us all over, and I thought it would be cute to put together a little recipe jar.

Oatmeal Cranberry Chip Cookie Jar

There is a Michaels down the street from my uncle’s eye business, so I decided to stop in last week on Thursday after dealing with all my eye issues.  I stocked up on a few jars to use for future foodie gift giving, since they are pretty inexpensive and still thoughtful.  Plus I think they are so cute and you can make them festive.  If you need a last-minute holiday gift idea, here you go!

Cranberry Oatmeal Chip Cookie Jar

Here are the ingredients I layered in Liz’s jar, from the bottom up:

  • ¾ cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1½ cups oats
  • ½ cup dried cranberries
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup white chocolate chips

You can really get as crafty or uncrafty as you want with these in terms of how you decorate the jars.  Since I was dealing with a lack of vision that day, I decided not to risk any horrifying craft results.  I kept it simple by just tying a bow to the jar and including a recipe card in the gift bag.

On the recipe card, I wrote:

Preheat oven to 350ºF.  Pour the contents of this jar into a large bowl and stir to combine.  Stir in one stick of melted unsalted butter (or unsweetened applesauce), 1 large egg, and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract.  Drop tablespoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, 3 inches apart.  Bake until the edges of the cookies are golden and the tops are set, 11-13 minutes.  Enjoy with your family!

I think it would be so cute to get mini wooden spoons and tie along with the recipe to the jar with a ribbon.  Maybe next year, Liz!

Have you ever given a foodie gift before?  Any fun crafty ideas for me?
