Things I Hate Doing

Last night as I was folding the laundry, I realized that as I was folding shirt after sports bra after towel, I was also tossing each and every sock onto the couch.  For Tim to fold, obviously.

I seriously hate folding socks.

This lead to some laughs and a discussion about things that we just hate doing.  And by hate doing I think we really were talking about the things we realized the other hates to do after moving in together.  I say this because I was really good at pointing out the things that Tim “hates” to do, and Tim was really good at pointing out mine.

At least we can laugh about it, right?  I’m sure these lists could go on, but we narrowed it down to a few obvious ones each:

Things I Hate Doing

  • Folding socks
  • Cleaning the lint/dirt off the bottom of the broom for the next use
  • Giving somebody else control of the computer when working on something together
  • Closing the lazy susan after spinning it to find a Tupperware container
  • Getting my own glass of water before bed (I always forget and then whine kindly ask Tim to get me one)

Things Tim Hates Doing

  • Opening mail until it can’t possibly stack up any higher
  • Putting his sandals away from being [half] under the coffee table
  • Moving our coffee table centerpiece BACK to the center of the coffee table after moving it to the corner for whatever reason.  (Fun fact – I have actually started calling our centerpiece a corner piece.  Because it’s a corner piece more often than a centerpiece.  This is mind-boggling to me).
  • Giving somebody else control of the television remote
  • Throwing away paper — receipts we don’t need, straw wrappers, you name it

I guess as long as I hold the computer and Tim holds the remote, all is well.

Yesterday I actually made it to the gym for 6am.  For a Monday morning, I consider that impressive.  I really enjoyed the workout format I used last Monday where I did 3 rounds of a 10 move circuit with 10 minutes of steady cardio before each round, so I opted to use the same “template” and just switch things up a bit.  I did all rounds of steady cardio on the spin bike, but here’s how my circuit looked:

I also rocked some new sneaks (Nike Pegasus).  They’re teal.  Enough said.

I need to get to the gym at 6am on Mondays more often for the following reasons:

  • It was nice to start the week with some “me” time, just zoning out while working out.
  • I had so much energy and was so productive all day long.  It was kind of awesome to feel this week, especially at the start of the week!  Usually on Mondays I feel so lethargic all day long.
  • I felt like I had so much free time last night.  To do things like make lists of things I don’t like to do instead of make lists about things I have to do.  😉

What is something you learned about someone after moving in with them?  Doesn’t necessarily have to be someone you are dating!

My favorite “after move in” discovery story is still my friend whose boyfriend stuck the produce plu code stickers all over their kitchen counters and shirt size stickers all over their dressers.  Too funny!

  1. I love this. Especially the his and hers…I could certainly write my own there. A big one for us is getting water on night (on Chris’s list) because the water that comes out of our fridge is so slow, painfully slow, the point that dehydration seems like a better option. Thankfully, Chris handles this and as a tradeoff I will do 3 loads of laundry a week for 2 minutes of getting water.

  2. Must be a male thing with the remote. However, I will gladly let him have the remote since he takes care of the litter box. Fair trade in my book.

  3. Bret always gives me total control of the remote as long as he can play his computer video games. One thing I hate to do that I always have Bret do is anything in cooking that involves getting your hands INTO the food….like “dredging” chicken…ugh, I hate the feeling of food on my hands like that haha. And yes, please get to the gym more on monday mornings! We can have two shower dates a week!

  4. Ugh the list of things I hate doing is similar to yours! One of my least favorite things is emptying the dishwasher, once the dishes are clean I really just wish they’d jump onto the shelves! And just pinned that workout, looks excellent!

  5. My boyfriend hates to put trash all the way in the trash can…like, if he opens something in the kitchen, he’ll put the trash on the counter instead of in the trashcan (which is right underneath the counter). It drives me absolutely crazy! My list looks a lot like yours! Except I hate taking the laundry out of the dryer and folding it period, not just the socks haha.

  6. I learned that I am a control freak over the kitchen. Luckily I have always had roomates who just let me have it. OH! and I have way more crap than anyone my age should have.

  7. Ugh – sock folding totally sucks!! I have 2 boys + husband and I don’t fold anymore – I just separate and let them do whatever they want from that point!
When my husband and I moved in together, I learned that he saved empty boxes – he would put them back in the spot they had been as if they were still full – not cool when it meant midnight trips to replace something I thought we already had.

  8. Haha this is a funny post! Things I hate doing: organizing cabinets and the fridge (emptying tupperware containers when they are no longer needed). I don’t mind folding socks and underwear and clothes and putting them away, but I will let stuff sit on my drying rack for days before I put that away.

  9. My hubby and I have opposite “sock folding” styles. I don’t mind pairing up my socks after I washed them, and I fold over the tops to create sock balls. My hubby, irks me to no end as I usually end up doing his laundry too, does not like sock balls, he just likes them laid upon one another, and when he is done wearing a sock, aka dirty socks, he then rolls them into sock balls so that they have to be unfolded prior to laundry – now that is the part I disklike!
