Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness about the disease.  Several different national public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government agencies collaborate to not only promote breast cancer awareness, but to share information and provide greater access to preventive services.

Several companies aside from the above do their part for breast cancer awareness month as well.  For example, as part of Wellness Works at work, our wellness team posted informational posters and distributed pamphlets from Blue Cross Blue Shield in all the kitchenettes and the women’s bathrooms.

KIND

KIND is another company that does their part for breast cancer awareness.  For Breast Cancer Awareness month they have actually partnered with BFFL to create the first-ever Limited Edition Breast BFFLBag®, a pink zippered quilted tote packed with essentials for breast cancer surgery recovery.  It contains a comfort pillow to fit under the underarm area, a wound and jp drain care kit, a skin care gift pack, moisturizing scar treatment, a toiletries kit, a folder for important papers/cards/instructions, a box of 12 KIND bars, a collapsible water bottle, and more.

The bag comes wrapped in tissue and accompanied by a handwritten gift card for someone in your life facing breast cancer surgery.  These are priced at $100 each, and for every bag purchased KIND is donating $5 to Friends Fighting Breast Cancer.  For anyone who may not be able to afford the bags, you can still make a difference by submitting letters of encouragement for the anonymously donated bags that will be distributed at the end of October.  If you’d like to send a letter in, please email bfflco@kindsnacks.com.

New Balance

My friends over at New Balance  also honor those affected by breast cancer through their partnership with the Susan G. Komen foundation.  To celebrate their 25th anniversary of this partnership, beginning on 11/1, supporters can dedicate their daily workouts to a breast cancer survivor featured each day on newbalance.com by tagging social media posts with the #LaceUp365 hashtag.  However, New Balance recognizes that the fight against breast cancer does not stop in October and #LaceUp365 will continue as a full-year program.  Participants can visit www.newbalance.com/laceup to join the Pink Laces Club for exclusive features, personal stories, and tips dedicated to staying fit and healthy and continuing the fight against breast cancer.  By registering, members will receive a pair of pink shoelaces and other incentives to use the #LaceUp365 hashtag throughout the year.

I just wanted to share these cool community programs with you guys!  One of my best friend’s mom is a breast cancer survivor, and I think these efforts are fantastic.

Do you know somebody affected by breast cancer?  Do your companies or any other companies you know do anything to promote breast cancer awareness?  Have you ever participated in any Susan G. Komen events?

Disclaimer / Disclosure:  I was not paid to write this post, but I was provided with free KIND products and free participation in some upcoming New Balance community events in exchange for sharing these efforts with my readers. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
