Sunday Stuff and Weekly Workouts

Monday, must you come so soon?  Wah.

Yesterday’s quilting session at Shannon‘s apartment was very fun!  She had a little Panini bar set out for Missy and I, and I brought over a salad.  She also made butterscotch blondies, which were unreal.  Love me some cheat day.

We spent the afternoon catching up while cutting up all our Providence College t-shirts.  All my squares are ready to go, and we ordered the black sweatshirt fabric online.  Shannon also taught me how to use her sewing machine.  I have a long way to go, but I’m excited for our next session.  Shannon’s a good teacher, and it’s nice to do something different!

After the quilting bee was over, I spent too much money dilly dallied in Target and then stopped by Slesh’s to give her and Will the biggest hug ever, a card, and see the ring!  I got all the details on their wonderful engagement weekend, then came home and did my usual Sunday night food prep for the week ahead.

Weekend So Far

Good morning!

First things first – my bestie got engaged this weekend!  A huge congrats to Slesh and Will.  My heart is so happy for the two of them.  Party time!  Yaaaaaayyyy.

Despite Tim leaving me all by my lonesome to go skiing, it’s been a pretty good weekend so far.  Friday night was a much-needed gym friends night out.  One of the instructors plays in a band, so the rest of us gym gals decided to head into the city to see them play.  We started the night with dinner at Brownstone.  We shared two flat breads among the table, and I ordered a salmon entrée that consisted of seared Atlantic salmon with strawberry BBQ sauce, sweet mashed potatoes, and asparagus.  So good!  I also enjoyed a tasty blueberry cocktail.

Friday Night

I felt it necessary to include a selfie in my Friday night pictures because I rarely put on clothes that aren’t either a) the same work clothes over and over, or b) gym outfits.  I love my Limited shirt!

After dinner we headed on over to the Beehive.  Our group of ten pretended to be classy while Amy’s band totally rocked it.  It was fun to do something different and see Amy in her element playing the keyboard on stage.

Fun night!  But then again, it always is with the gym ladies.

Saturday began at the Y for a burpee workout date with Ashley.

120 Burpees

Ooof.  This was the final workout to complete Best Body Bootcamp Round 4, so we really wanted to do it.  It was the same workout I did last week with Kaylin and Ash, but I could definitely feel myself progress.  I didn’t have to drop weights on the step ups > bicep curls > overhead presses.  And I did most of the plank > pushup > rows on my feet with the heavier weight, thanks to Ashley’s genius idea of just turning the weights so palms face in.  Who knew!  As expected, I was a sweaty mess by the end.

The rest of Saturday afternoon involved lots of errands, including a stop at the 40% friends and family event at the New Balance Factory store.  I am always on the hunt for sneakers that don’t bother my feet, and after a very long conversation with a very helpful and patient employee, I decided to buy the 997 cross-trainer.

New Balance Cross Trainers

I am going to trial them in class next week and see how they feel.  I still don’t feel 100% convinced that they were the right choice, but we’ll see.  Again I will plea to you readers, does anyone know a good cross training sneaker with a wider forefoot/toe box?  I swear they don’t exist!

To make sure my time in NB wasn’t a waste (in case I return the shoes), I bought a tank top for good measure.

NB Tank

The rest of my Saturday was spent doing lots of things around the house, meeting my parents for pizza and salad at Stone Hearth Pizza, and relaxing <— yes, relaxing!

I’m off to do a couple of productive things, then I’m heading over to my friend Shannon‘s apartment for the afternoon.  She is teaching me how to make a quilt out of all my old Providence College t-shirts that I don’t wear anymore but don’t want to throw away.  I’m not very crafty in this sense, so we’ll see how it goes!

How are your weekends going so far?

Monday Night at the Gym

Goooood morning.

Last night I was pumped and ready to get my cardio on, especially after too much food at Friends-giving on Sunday.  I had grand plans to do some Best Body Bootcamp climbing intervals on the elliptical, but when I got to the gym around 5pm I decided I just didn’t feel like “machining it.”  Ashley’s Cardio Cutz class sounded much more fun and would work well with the timing of my night:

Hang signs for Thanksgiving schedule, review feedback forms from suggestion box, gather instructor certifications.

For those wondering about the Thanksgiving schedule:

Ashley’s Cutz class, YAY.  I used 4 pound weights which I hadn’t done in a LONG time, and my arms were definitely feeling it!  For those unfamiliar with Cardio Cutz, it’s a Corpbasics class that is very high rep.  You really should never grab weights higher than four pounds, which maybe seems very light but I promise you by the end of a Cutz class your arms will certainly feel it even if just squeezing your fists the entire time without weights.  I was bummed I had to cut out of Cutz slightly early, but glad I finally could make this class for once.

30 minute check in meeting

Subbed Monique’s Dynamax class!  These folks worked SO HARD.  I love, love, LOVED teaching them.  Especially since I used a bunch of sweet moves from the Dynamax workshop I took at Boston Mania.  I was pumped to try the new exercises on a real class!!

Disclaimer:  I did not create some of the exercises below, nor did I come up with this entire class format on my own.  I also am not sure I am truly using the “official” names for some of the moves I did.  The material below is a combination of new formats I learned in Boston Mania, the results of some online searches today, and a little creativity on my behalf to put it all together.  For more on Dynamax, please click over to their website as well as their YouTube channel!  I want to make sure they get full credit for the things I post about them.

In this workout, anything noted with the word partner is obviously done with a partner, but it’s important to note that each partner takes a turn being the trainer versus the trainee.   Since my gym only has six Dynamax balls, anything noted with a slash (/) meant that one person was doing a move with the ball while the other was doing the other move on a mat.  Finally, anything listed by itself was done twice — the partners just alternated who used the ball for the move versus who did not.  That was kind of mean of me with squat jumps, pushups, and burpees all in a row… for  45 seconds with the ball, and 45 seconds without.

If you are interested in this kind of class, the Y offers it as part of our specialty group programming, and Monique is a fabulous instructor!!  The class is on Mondays from 7-8pm, and while we are halfway through the session we are offering the rest of the session classes at a pro-rated rate.  It’s pretty much the closest thing you will get to personal training without actually paying for personal training.  I’m subbing for Monique again next week, so if you want more information let me know.  I can get you the deets.

My core is already sore.  Sore core!  Let’s just say I have another new fitness obsession.

Have you tried Dynamax before?  Thoughts?

Have a terrific Tuesday!!  My night tonight is not a regimented as last night’s, but it IS Two A Day Tuesday.  Get excitedddd.
