The Aegean

Today was Mother’s Day, and we celebrated my mom by getting some coffee and treats at Flour Bakery in Cambridge before walking around Castle Island.  We had a delicious Greek dinner (obvi) at The Aegean in Watertown, and then my parents and brother came back to my apartment so my mom could open her Mother’s Day presents.  The day started out rainy, but luckily the sun came out and we were able to enjoy an active and sunny afternoon.  Hope you had a nice day, Mom!  Thanks for all you do.

P.S.  If you missed my mother’s guest post this morning, check it out!  You Zumba fans will especially love it.

Pre-Vacation Vacation

Hello, friends.  Wednesday already!

Weekly Goals

First of all, I’m loving all the “Two Goals for Tuesday” that came in yesterday!  Here’s what some of you are working on this week:

  • Erica:  Drink a ton of water, also, and FINISH the 50k this Saturday!!
  • Jess:  Get back to the gym…at least four days this week. I’ve been on hiatus!
  • Ash:  1) Go to two a day! finally! and 2) work out M-F due to weekend away
  • Jen:  1) WATER! 2) Lots of veggies and healthy food to prepare for my half marathon on Sunday!

Such great goals, everyone!  Keep at em!  Anyone else have any weekly goals they’d like to share?!

20 Minute Abs

Second of all, I wanted to share another 20 minute core workout with you!  Here’s what I taught in Core Strength class on Monday:

Perhaps something to try today?  On your lunch break?  Before bed?  As part of your workout?  20 minutes ain’t that long in the grand scheme of your 24 hour day!!   If you try this, let me know how you like it.  🙂

Pre-Vacation Vacation

Alright, to the title of this post!  Today I wanted to share some of the highlights of my vacation… but not my week down the Cape yet.  Here are some scenes from Thursday July 5th through Sunday July 8th, or what I’ve been referring to as my “Pre-Vacation Vacation.”  It was quite nice to enjoy a few days in Boston without any work and without having to teach any classes.  I did work out, but I resolved not to step foot in the Y during my time off.  Aside from the workouts I posted yesterday, here’s all the other fun stuff I did!!

Went kayaking on the Charles River….

Walked around Castle Island

Had a pizza date night (with an Eversave deal) at The Upper Crust

Enjoyed a beach day in Nantasket with fun friends…

Followed by calamari and fun drinks at Barefoot Bob’s

Had a dream date at the waterfront with Miss Slesh…

Which included fun drinks and lunch at The Chart House….

And then another drink at The Landing

And finally, attended Ryan and Jenna’s wedding at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel in Falmouth…

You know, some people say that they would eventually be so bored if they didn’t have to work… but I strongly disagree.

Ever taken a pre-vacation vacation?  Does this count as a stay-cation?  Do you think you are someone who would get bored and antsy if you didn’t have to work?

Off to tackle my day… because unfortunately, I do have to work!

Castle Island and The Greek Corner Restaurant

Did you guys all get a chance to read my mom’s guest post this weekend in honor of Mother’s Day?  I know it was a beautiful weekend out and people had a lot of family plans, so if you missed it make sure to click over to this link and check it out!

To celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, my family and I went for a long walk at Castle Island.  It’s so pretty there!

It felt nice to finally have some good weather and enjoy the sunshine.

During our walk, we kept seeing planes coming and going from Logan airport.  They were so close!

Of course, a few photo ops for Georgia:

My mom also spotted this sign and told me it would be the perfect picture for Fitness & Feta, so I just had to take it.

After we worked up an appetite from our walk, we headed over to Cambridge to try out a new Greek restaurant.  Would you expect anything else?

If that doesn’t look like a Greek restaurant (it was called The Greek Corner), I don’t know what does.

We started out with some Avgolemeno soup and some pita bread.

Do you guys remember when I made homemade Avgolemeno soup?  Love this stuff!

Then came out lots of yummy Greek entrees, each with a Greek salad and the homemade rice.

Moussaka for my mom…

Pastitso for my dad…

A lamb sandwich for my brother…

The gyro plate for my sis…

And a lamb and veggie skewer for me!

Everything was so delicious.

My dad also enjoyed a Mythos beer!

After we finished eating, my mom opened her presents.  I got her a fitness themed gift in honor of her fitness oriented Mother’s Day guest post.

The gift included:

  • Gaiam Metro Gym Bag (Target)
  • Champion Workout Shirt (Target)
  • Bally’s Figure 8 Exercise Band (Home Goods)
  • Swiss Ball Workout Book (Barnes & Noble)

Feel free to steal the idea if you need something fitness related for someone in your life!

Hope you had a nice Mother’s Day, Mom!

How did you celebrate Mother’s Day this year?  What did you do for your mother?  If you are a mom, what did your kids do for you?

Off to Two A Day Tuesday!  My body is CRAVING it!
