How is it already Monday?

Let me ask that again.  HOW is it already Monday!?  This weekend was a nice, healthy mix of both fun and relaxation.  I didn’t have a ton of crazy busy plans which was perfectly fine with me.  I was a little more gluttonous than usual though.  Oh well.  It’s a new week, and I never like to dwell when I ending up eating more indulgently than normal.  We are all human!

Weekend Recap

Friday night consisted of dinner and drinks out for Bridget’s birthday at Whiskey Priest.

For dinner I ordered the California wrap with no bacon and no ranch dressing, with a side salad instead of fries.  The table got nachos, and I tried to keep my chomping away to a minimum but lemme tell you those chips were delish.  My drinks for the night included a couple of vodka sodas with lime, and a few Blue Moons.  By the end of the night, this was happening:

We also celebrated Bridget’s day with the champagne cupcakes I baked for her!

These are seriously amazeballs.  I used this recipe from my friend Shannon’s blog.  Thanks, Shannon!  They were a big hit!

Saturday morning was a little rough, but somehow Slesh and I got ourselves out of bed and made it to the Y to take Amy’s 10am Kickboxing class.  After workin’ on our fitness we spent the afternoon in the sun at Revere Beach.

Saturday night was originally going to be a Korean BBQ dinner out for Tim’s sister Katie’s birthday, but the timing didn’t work out so Tim and I used a Groupon and tried out a new restaurant in Newton Center, B Street Restaurant and Bar.  I ordered the lamb chop with goat cheese mashed potatoes.

Yes, I just said goat cheese mashed potatoes.  They were as good as they sound.  Anyways, Tim and I liked the restaurant but both decided that we probably wouldn’t go back there again unless we had another deal.  Only because the menu items were a little out of our usual price range.  After dinner we did end up seeing Katie and hung out at her apartment for a while.  It was nice to catch up, but Korean BBQ for the belated birthday celebration must happen soon!

Sunday I slept in, and then Tim & I headed over to the Cleveland Circle Pool for a few hours.  Was nice to be in the sun again just reading my book.  Oh, and we stopped in at Chill on the way home.  Local readers, if you haven’t tried this fro yo yet please make a point to this summer.  It’s my fave!

Rest of the night was spent making dinner (Chickpea Burgers with a side of Greek Style Green Beans) and prepping some food to have on hand for the week.

This week is the first week of the Best Body Bootcamp that I signed up for!  We received the week one workout plan a couple of days ago.  I’m still trying to decide how to best fit the plans into my workout schedule / classes for the week, but I’m pretty sure it will end up looking something like this:

  • Sunday:  Off
  • Monday:  20 minutes of HIIT Cardio + Supersets + Teaching Core Strength
  • Tuesday:  Kickboxing + Teaching Circuit class, incorporating moves from Workout #2
  • Wednesday:   Interval Workout + maybe Cutz class?
  • Thursday:  Teaching Circuit, incorporating moves from Workout #4
  • Friday:  Teaching Cardio & Core
  • Saturday:  Off or TBD (Kickboxing or Cutz or Yoga?!)

Weekly Goals

As part of the bootcamp program, Tina is also encouraging us to make two personal goals for ourselves each week.  This is actually kind of similar to what I did last week when I asked all of you to make a couple.  Last week my two goals were to 1) drink more water and to 2) try a new healthy recipe.  While I didn’t do as great with drinking more water, I did try out Fitnessista’s breakfast cookie on Friday and made it again for breakfast yesterday since Tim was dying to try one too.  This week I think I’ll keep Goal 1 as drinking more water, and make Goal 2 to be to do my hip stretches every single day.  Your turn!  What are your 2 weekly health and fitness goals going to be?

Weekend Update

Friday

…was my work from home day.  Love work from home days because when I eliminate getting ready and commute time, I have more time for blogging, mid-day workouts, and getting things done around the house.

Most people would probably say more time for sleep.

But I’m just a huge loser and okay with it.

On my lunch break, I made a return to yoga.  Since I’ve been subbing so many classes lately, I have been on a yoga hiatus.   I actually can’t even remember the last time I went to yoga class before Friday, so I was a bit nervous that I’d be really off during class.  I went to Prana for Hour of Power, and to my surprise I wasn’t as “out of it” as I anticipated.  By the end of class I was dripping as usual, but on Friday the instructor didn’t even turn on the heat since it was 99 degrees in the room when we started.  I tend to like Hour of Power classes better than the regular All Levels classes because I like more of a vinyasa style yoga where there is more flow and steady movement through the poses rather than holding the poses for long periods of time, which I think is more of a Bikram style.  Just my preference!  Plus the instructors usually pack more moves into Hour of Power than they do during a regular 90 minute class so sometimes I feel like I get more out of it.

Friday’s meals consisted of:

  • Afternoon Snack:  Peach
  • Dinner:  Not that healthy!  I went to a BBQ at our friends place and ate a cheeseburger, pasta salad, and a lot of goldfish.  I was OK with it 🙂

Saturday

…was pretty much spent in Cleveland Circle.  After a lazy morning, Tim and I ventured over to Cityside with Katrina and Geoff.  We spent the afternoon hanging out on the roofdeck for lunch and beers for the boys / mimosas for the girls.  I ordered the turkey and artichoke panini which was thinly sliced smoked turkey pressed with artichokes, roasted red peppers, parmesan and mozzarella cheese on a panini roll.  Instead of fries, I substituted a side salad.

On our walk back to the apartment, we passed Chill and of course had to stop in for some dessert!  If you’ve never tried Chill, you MUST.  Their frozen yogurt is low calorie and prepared daily.  The flavors are also made with real fruit that are pureed right there on site.   They also have a huge choice of toppings for the frozen yogurt, regular ice cream, frozen drinks, and coffee and tea.

I went with original flavor yogurt, topped with strawberries, mango, and kiwi.

Tim also chose original yogurt, but topped his with white chocolate chips, kiwi, and pineapple.

Trina went with strawberry flavored yogurt with banana.

Geoff was too cool for yogurt and went with ice cream instead!

After Saturday’s Chill stop, I’m only five punches away on my frequent buyer card to getting a free yogurt.  If you know me, you can only guess how excited that makes me.  🙂

Saturday night was Slesh’s birthday celebration.  We headed to Tommy Doyle’s in Harvard Square.  I don’t regret the beers I drank, but I do regret the late night pizza fest in my kitchen when we got home.  Ugh.  Dancing in the bar counts as a workout and could make up for that, right?!  Oh well.  It was a fun night.

Sunday

…was another lazy morning.  In the afternoon we had Tim’s little cousin’s birthday party.  I actually skipped breakfast which I NEVER do and really do not recommend doing because it’s so bad for you, but I honestly was so full from the pizza the night before that I waited until we got to the cookout to eat.  I was disappointed that there weren’t a lot of healthy options there.  I had some meatballs and a stuffed shell and a little turkey sandwich.  Tonight Tim and I are going to make big salads for dinner since Saturday night and the BBQ today did not consist of the healthiest eating.

Question of the Day: What do you do if you want to make healthy choices but the venue you are at doesn’t have anything that you would normally select? 

I’m off to clean my room and pack for Colorado – away for work this week until Friday.  Good thing Colleen and I already planned out our workouts for the week.  You all can expect some healthy living on the road updates from Boulder while I’m away!
